When Is SEC Fraternity Rush 2026? The Complete Schedule for All 16 Schools

THE FRATRUSH CREW|Last updated April 14, 2026|12 min read

We update this page as schools publish official dates. Always confirm with your school's IFC website before making travel or planning decisions.

Rush Doesn't Start When You Think It Does

Here's what nobody tells you: rush doesn't start in August. At most SEC schools, the real recruiting kicks off in May and June. Chapters are hosting cookouts, lake trips, watch parties, and casual hangouts all summer long. They're meeting guys, evaluating them, and making bid decisions months before formal rush week even begins.

At schools like Auburn, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and Texas, summer events are where 80-90% of bid decisions are made. Formal rush week in August or September is often just a confirmation of decisions already reached.

That means if your plan is to show up to campus in August and figure it out from there, you're already behind the guys who started showing up to summer events in June. That's not a scare tactic - that's just how the system works at every SEC school we've profiled.

We've spent months researching all 16 SEC schools, profiling over 330 individual chapters, and talking to rush chairs, chapter advisors, and current members. The crew put in the work so you don't have to piece it together yourself. This post breaks down the 2026 rush timeline for every school so you know exactly when the clock starts ticking at yours.

The Two Phases of SEC Rush

Before we get into school-by-school dates, you need to understand the structure. SEC fraternity recruitment is a two-phase process, and the first phase is the one most guys miss entirely.

Phase 1: Summer Recruiting (May - August)

Starting as early as late May, chapters host informal events to meet incoming freshmen. These aren't on the IFC website. They're not on the school calendar. You find out about them through connections, through chapter Instagram accounts, or through sources like FratRush that track them.

Summer events are casual: cookouts, lake days, sports watch parties, bar socials. The vibe is relaxed. But make no mistake - brothers are evaluating you. At schools with summer bidding windows (Auburn opens June 6, Missouri opens June 1), chapters can and do extend bids on the spot.

Here's the part that should get your attention: at several SEC schools, competitive chapters fill their entire pledge class from summer events alone. By the time formal rush week starts, the spots are taken.

Phase 2: Formal Rush Week (August - September)

This is the IFC-organized recruitment that most people think of as "rush." It follows a structured round format.

Round 1 is open house - you visit as many chapters as possible in short rotations. Round 2 is invitational - the field narrows and conversations get personal. Round 3 is preference night - the final round before bids. Then comes bid day.

Behind closed doors, brothers vote on every rushee by name after each round. Someone champions you or nobody says your name and you get cut. That's why connecting with even one brother matters so much - you need someone in that room fighting for you.

Bottom line: if you're only planning for formal rush week, you're showing up to the second half of a game that started months ago. Don't be that guy.

2026 Rush Dates: All 16 SEC Schools

Here's when recruitment happens at every SEC school. We've grouped them by timeline so you can see the big picture.

Summer Rush Schools

These schools have active summer recruiting where most bid decisions happen before formal rush week. If you're targeting one of these, plan to be available starting in June.

Auburn University - 30 IFC chapters, 29% male Greek participation. Summer bidding window: June 6 - August 29, 2026. Formal recruitment begins August 18. Registration is free, but the deadline is May 1. Auburn's IFC runs a structured summer-to-fall pipeline where chapters recruit through Camp War Eagle sessions, cookouts, and lake trips. By the time formal rush week starts, the competitive chapters have their class locked.

University of Oklahoma - 17 IFC chapters, 21% male Greek participation. Summer events run June through August on Elm Avenue and College Avenue. Formal rush: August 19-23, 2026. Registration fee: $55. If you want the most competitive houses at OU, show up in June and July. Formal rush is the final stage, not the first.

Texas A&M University - 20 IFC chapters, 15% male Greek participation. Summer recruiting runs June through August in the Northgate area. Formal rush week is projected for mid-August 2026. Registration: $30 (waivable). Aggie tradition runs deeper than fraternity identity here, which means chapters compete with the broader Aggie community for engagement.

University of Texas at Austin - 28 IFC chapters, 18% male Greek participation. Texas is unique: there is no formal IFC rush structure. Recruitment is completely open and informal year-round. Summer recruiting (May-August) is where decisions happen. No bid fees - chapters cover costs. Three chapters reactivated in 2025 (ATO, Phi Delta Theta, Pi Kappa Phi), creating new entry points.

University of Missouri - 30 IFC chapters, 35% male Greek participation. Summer bidding window: June 1 - August 31. Fall formal recruitment (5-day process) begins the week before classes, with bid day projected for August 25. Free registration. Second-highest Greek percentage in the SEC.

Fall Rush Schools

These schools run traditional fall formal recruitment during or immediately after move-in.

University of Alabama - 36 IFC chapters, 36% male Greek participation. Largest Greek system in the SEC with approximately 13,000 Greek members. Fall recruitment projected for August 15-22, 2026. Registration: $175. Alabama runs a structured, polished operation. Summer recruiting matters for competitive chapters, but the formal fall process is where the system runs.

University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) - 16 IFC chapters, 48% male Greek participation. Highest Greek percentage in the SEC. Fall registration opens May 1. Formal recruitment projected to begin August 18, 2026. Registration: $200. The Grove tailgating culture is legendary and deeply tied to recruitment. In Oxford, Greek life IS the social scene.

University of Georgia - 28 IFC chapters, 25% male Greek participation. Registration opens May 1, closes July 15. Fall formal recruitment projected for mid-August 2026. Registration: $150. Athens combines Deep South tradition with a progressive college-town energy. Milledge Avenue is the Greek hub.

LSU - 14 IFC chapters, 23% male Greek participation. Fall formal recruitment projected for August 21-25, 2026. Free registration. Death Valley gameday culture supersedes everything at LSU. The culture emphasizes authenticity and genuine connection over polish.

University of Florida - 26 IFC chapters, 18% male Greek participation. Fall recruitment: August 25-29, 2026 (confirmed). House tours begin August 26-27 at 9:00 AM on Fraternity Row. Registration: $25. Florida has the most accessible IFC system in the SEC and the oldest continuously operating Greek system in the country (since 1884). Year-round continuous recruitment means bidding never truly stops.

University of South Carolina - 26 IFC chapters, 18% male Greek participation. Fall formal recruitment projected for mid-August 2026. Spring recruitment orientation: January 18, 2026. Registration: $80. Greek Village features 20 premier facilities. The Fraternity Lot at Williams-Brice Stadium (21 fraternities have dedicated spots) makes gameday the ultimate recruiting event.

University of Kentucky - 20 IFC chapters, 18% male Greek participation. Fall recruitment kicks off during K Week with the Main Lawn Mingle, projected for early September 2026. Registration: $55. Year-round continuous recruitment reduces pressure on any single rush period. Kentucky is unique in the SEC - Rupp Arena basketball dominates the social calendar, not football.

University of Arkansas - 17 IFC chapters, 18% male Greek participation. Arkansas runs dual recruitment cycles. Spring 2026: IFC Meet the Chapters on February 18, formal rounds February 20-22, Bid Day February 28 (confirmed). Fall recruitment projected for August-September. Registration: $100. Stadium Drive Greek Row is the heart of fraternity life.

Mississippi State University - 18 IFC chapters, 24% male Greek participation. Fall formal recruitment projected for late August 2026. Spring open bidding registration: January 22 - February 11 (no fee). Largest IFC body by absolute numbers in the SEC with approximately 4,100 members. Bid fees vary wildly by chapter ($400-$2,500/semester).

University of Tennessee - 21 IFC chapters, 18% male Greek participation. Tennessee runs both fall and spring formal recruitment. Fall formal recruitment projected for late August 2026 (fall 2025 ran August 22-30). Spring 365 Recruitment begins January 25, 2026 (confirmed), with registration December 1 - January 19. Free registration. Tennessee's IFC is the oldest Greek council in the nation (1872). Every chapter practices continuous year-round recruitment, so bids can come in any semester.

Spring Rush Schools

This school runs formal recruitment in the spring for first-year students. This is not a backup plan - it's the primary path.

Vanderbilt University - 13 IFC chapters, 30% male Greek participation. Spring-only formal recruitment. Preference Night: January 10. Bid Night: January 11 (coat and tie required). Free registration. Smallest IFC system in the SEC. Nashville's urban culture is fundamentally different from traditional college towns. Chapters recruit informally all fall before the compressed January bid process.

What the Schedule Doesn't Tell You

Dates are the easy part. We just gave those to you for free. Knowing when to show up is step one. If you're a parent new to the process, the parent's guide walks through the entire rush experience. Knowing what to do when you get there - that's what separates the guys who get bids from the guys who get cut.

There's a reason chapters vote behind closed doors after every round. There's a reason some guys get invited back to preference night and others get dropped after round one. There's a reason legacy status matters at some schools and is irrelevant at others. There's a reason the financial commitment ranges from $500/semester at some schools to over $4,750/semester at others.

The schedule gets you in the door. What happens after that depends on how prepared you are.

The Stuff We Can't Give Away for Free

This post gives you the dates. That's a solid head start. But the playbook? That's a different level.

The Rush Playbook covers what to wear round-by-round (it's different at every school and region), the conversation topics that actually get you remembered, the unwritten rules nobody tells freshmen, the financial reality school-by-school, and a complete rush checklist from 6 months out through bid day. It's 13 chapters of insider intel written from hundreds of hours of research and real conversations with chapter members.

School-specific chapter profiles go deeper. We've profiled every IFC chapter at all 16 SEC schools - over 330 chapters - with culture descriptions, rush competitiveness ratings, Instagram handles, and specific tips for getting a bid at each house. This is the intel that helps you walk into a rush event already knowing which chapters match your vibe and which ones to skip.

The Rush Calendar tracks every event at every school - summer cookouts, formal rush rounds, bid days, registration deadlines - all in one place. Filter by school, sync to your phone, and stop scrambling through Instagram stories trying to figure out what's happening when.

We built FratRush because all of this information exists - it's just scattered across 16 university websites, hundreds of chapter Instagram accounts, and thousands of conversations that freshmen don't have access to. We locked it all in one place so you don't have to piece it together yourself.

IFC Registration Deadlines: Don't Miss These

This one is free because missing it means you can't rush at all.

Free registration: Auburn (May 1 deadline), LSU, Tennessee, Arkansas, Texas, Missouri, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Florida ($25).

Paid registration: Alabama ($175), Ole Miss ($200), Georgia ($150, deadline July 15), South Carolina ($80), Kentucky ($55), Oklahoma ($55), Texas A&M ($30, waivable).

Check your school's IFC website in June or July and register early. Some schools fill up or have technical issues close to the deadline. Missing registration means watching rush from the sidelines.

FAQ: Quick Answers

When does rush actually start? At summer rush schools (Auburn, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Texas, Missouri), it starts in May-June. At fall rush schools, formal recruitment runs mid-to-late August. Tennessee runs both fall and spring, and Vanderbilt runs spring-only in January. But at every school, informal recruiting happens year-round.

Can I rush in the spring if I miss fall? Yes. Most schools offer spring open bidding with less competition and chapters actively seeking quality guys. Vanderbilt runs its primary formal rush in spring, so you're on the main cycle there. Tennessee runs both semesters, so spring is a legitimate primary path too.

How much does it cost? Registration fees range from free to $200. Fraternity dues and costs vary from roughly $500/semester (Florida, Arkansas) to $4,750+/semester (Alabama with housing). We break down costs school-by-school in The Rush Playbook.

Do I need recommendation letters? For IFC (men's) fraternity recruitment? No. Rec letters are NOT required at SEC schools. This is a common misconception that comes from Panhellenic (sorority) recruitment, where recs are often critical. A rec letter from an alumnus can help, but if you can't get one, don't lose sleep over it. We cover this in detail in The Rush Playbook.

What's the single biggest mistake guys make? Only planning for formal rush week and ignoring summer events. The second biggest: only rushing one or two houses and putting all their eggs in one basket.
